Car Parts For A Science Fair
It is your son’s big science fair project coming up, the one he has been looking forward to all year long, and he doesn’t know what to do for his project. You suggest a few ideas but all seem boring to him and overdone. He’s already seen the one with the erupting volcano with molten lava and volcanic ash, the ones that test different scents of animals, and the one that tests people’s vision power. He doesn’t want to repeat a project that is has already been done. So, you both come up with an idea together. You decide to take old car parts and auto parts lying around the house, which are most likely in the garage or back yard, and do experiments on them.
One experiment you can do on old car parts and auto parts is testing out the sounds they make when they come in touch with other objects. You can have a bumper of a car on the ground and hang a marble on a string directly above the bumper. When the marble comes in contact with the bumper, observe what sound it makes. Then try it with a lighter object, like a paper clip, observe the different noises that the marble and paper clip make. The heavier, denser object is more likely to make a deeper or louder noise, and the lighter object will probably make a softer noise. You can try this with different car parts and different found objects.
You can also test how durable old car parts are. You can try to melt different types of metal found from the car or rubber objects from the car, but be careful to not burn yourself and the smell from the rubber may also be harmful to your lungs, so make sure you have the right safety equipment. Or you can try to smash different car parts or bend them, and see how durable they still are.
Another experiment you might want to try is on the reliability of safety belts. Take an older safety belt and buckle and unbuckle it and compare that with a newer safety belt to buckle and unbuckle. Do they both feel equally tight and durable, or does one seem more durable than the other? The best way to really test this is on a moving vehicle, like what is actually done on a car test before they are brought on the market, but you probably don’t have access to that type of equipment.
The science fair is a big deal so it is no wonder that your son has been looking forward to it the whole year. If you did a science fair project on old car parts and auto parts, this would be an original idea that not too many youngsters would come up with. So, just be sure to be careful with some of these experiments, as burning and smashing some equipment can be dangerous and hazardous to your health, so make sure it is done in the presence of an adult and with the right safety equipment.
You can use car parts and used auto parts in your science fair!
Changing Car Parts – It’s Not As Tough As You Think
You are driving to an important business meeting. You realize that your gas light is blinking. You have no choice but to stop by the gas station and fill up. Your exhausted from your long sleepless night so you run inside to grab a cup of coffee. You come out and your car does not start. You whip out your booster cables and try to jump the car with the car parked next to yours, but to no avail. You realize you need a new battery. The fact is that you just put a new starter in for a couple hundred dollars. Besides for being extremely frazzled because it is clear you will be terribly late for your meeting, you are really stressed out that you are constantly putting money into your car. Of course if you had the money you would buy a spanking new 2011 car or lease one so the chances of dealing with such inconveniences is considerably less. However, facts are facts and right now the only thing you can afford to drive is an old beat up clunker on four wheels from the year 1995. So you are trying to figure out what is the cheapest way to change parts since it is becoming a daily habit.
You wish you would have gone into car mechanics instead of real estate. But what you, like many other people don’t realize is that many car parts can be changed by anyone not only a mechanic. For example, a battery is a very simple car part that can be replaced. You will need to go to an auto parts store and buy a new battery. Before you go, find out what kind of battery you have and make sure to provide the auto parts salesman with the year, make and model of your car as well as the engine size. When you have your new battery, you are ready to roll. Park your car on a flat surface and make sure that the emergency brake is on. Open the hood and try to find the battery and the positive and negative terminals of the old battery. First disconnect the negative terminal and then the positive one. Then you should remove the battery by unfastening the battery holder and removing anything that is holding the battery in place. You then clean the terminal clamps and battery tray. Take your new battery and place it in the spot of the old battery.
You may then reconnect the positive and then negative terminals using a wrench to tighten it. You may now close the hood and give yourself a bug pat on the back for saving yourself about a hundred dollars!
So next time you have an auto part to be repaired, before calling you local mechanic in a panic do some research yourself. Go online and see how simple it really can be. You may not only be surprised, but thrilled to learn how talented and capable you really are.
